Tim was called to the ministry when he was 16 years
old. After graduating from Howe High School on the east
side of Indianapolis, Tim enlisted in the Army Reserve as
a Chaplain assistant. After completion of basic training
and advanced individual training Tim returned to
Indianapolis.
Tim attended IUPUI earning a Bachelor of Arts in history
and continued to serve in the army Reserve as a chaplain
assistant. During Tim’s senior year he became the interim
pastor at Irvington Baptist Chapel and served as interim
pastor for 16 months. Tim was licensed to the gospel
ministry in 1991 by Southwood Baptist church.
Tim entered the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in
1992. In 1993 Tim received a commission in the Indiana
National Guard as a chaplain candidate. Tim graduated on
the dean’s list with a Masters of Divinity in 1995. Tim
was ordained by Southwood Baptist church in 1995. Tim
married his college sweetheart, Janice, shortly after
graduation from seminary and they just celebrated 10 years
of marriage and ministry together this year. Tim then
became a full chaplain in the Indiana National Guard,
serving as a chaplain in aviation, field artillery,
signal, and infantry units.
Tim became a bivocational pastor working full time and
pastoring Pike Baptist Church in 1999. Tim joined the
ministry staff of Lighthouse Mission Ministries in 2001
while continuing to pastor Pike Baptist Church. He served
as a chaplain, counseled and ministered to men in the
Christian recovery program known as the LifePlan program
of Lighthouse Mission. While serving as a chaplain at the
mission Tim gained many hours of continuous education in
drug and alcohol addiction as well as achieving his
Addiction Counselor in Training certificate by the Indiana
Counselor’s Association on Alcohol and Drugs.
In 2004 Tim was mobilized with the Indiana National Guard
to serve in the Global War on Terrorism. Tim served 15
months on active duty as the Deputy Task Force Chaplain
for Task Force Phoenix. His duty included serving 12
months in Afghanistan. Prior to deploying, Pastor Tim and
Dr. Hunter arranged to merge One Vision in Christ
Community Baptist Church, an African American church and
Pike Baptist Church, a Caucasian church to form one of the
first multi-ethnic Southern Baptist churches in the city.
Upon Tim’s return from Afghanistan he continues to serve
full time with Lighthouse Mission as the Director of After
Care and the ministry staff at One Vision in Christ.
Tim and Janice have 3 children, Stephen, Sarah, and
Hannah.
Tim has 20 years of military service in the Chaplain Corp
and will continue to work with redeploying soldiers and
their spouses in marriage work shops through out the year
as well as attending the command and General Staff
College. Janice is employed full time at IUPUI and is
currently working on a master in Human Computer
Iinteraction.
